Thanks for your comment Darcy. I will continue to explore this topic. As our daughter gets older, it will require some different strategies to reach a balance in our family. It sounds like you have your hands full. I hope you are finding time for yourself.

I hope you find time to publish more about this topic as your daughter grows older and or you have more children. I tend to find positive articles on extreme sports written by people who have not yet faced the challenge of supporting their children's sports and arts and education while pursuing their own extreme sports. I have 3 daughters who all participate in a sport and an art while keeping also their grades up. My husband is a triathlete and ironman of multiple races and consistent training. I am uncomfortable with his lack of mental focus and support on the girls efforts to succeed. While he does his best to try to keep up parental duties such as picking up from practice, school, etc...I find he is emotionally and mentally unavailable in his support. His free time is spent thinking, researching blogs or equipment, planning his next ride, etc. There's not much left for the rest of the family. I just handle it all. 3 preteen girls. And I'm supposed to be thankful he schedules his run/bike early in the morning and can swing by to drop the girls off at their practice on his way to the gym. Extreme sports can be obsessions. Just replace the word "porn" or "beer" for the word "triathlon" and it would immediately appear as an overindulgence!!

Barbara,
Thanks for the comment. It is always good to hear back from readers. For my family; finding a balance takes time, compromise and constant attention. And it evolves as our daughter grows and priorities change. I'm sure I'll write more on this topic in the future.

I have been trying to get people of low fat diets for a long time now and I am glad to see a post like this that helps confirm my arguments. Healthy Fats = Good Healthy. =)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this salad. I didn't know where to find it because it always comes as a donation during the day at the battered women's shelter where I work graveyard.
Now if you can replicate the recipe for the tofu, carrot and radiatori pasta salad they also donate to us, I would be in heaven!
Thanks so much for this!
